Take me to "The Rite of Christian
Initiation of
Adults"

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process by which a person enters into full communion with the Catholic Church. This process is for catechumens (the unbaptized) and candidates (those baptized Christians from another faith tradition and those baptized Catholics who have not received all of the Sacraments of Initiation).

Sacred Heart’s RCIA process runs year round and involves several stages. Inquiry answers initial questions about the Church and prepares the participants for the catechumenate. The catechumenate is a time of study and community building in preparation to receive the Sacraments of Initiation. This includes dismissal wherein RCIA participants are dismissed after the homily at Sunday Mass to reflect more deeply on the Scriptures. Purification and enlightenment during Lent completes the spiritual preparation begun in the catechumenate. After the candidates and catechumens receive the sacraments at Easter Vigil, Mystagogia, a time of reflection on the mysteries, completes the RCIA process.

The RCIA inquiry group meets throughout the year on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 7-8:45pm in the conference room. (The entrance is located outside the parish office, near the Assembly room.) For more information, call Brigid Johnson at 584-4528.
