The Haiti Committee is the link between our parish and our sister parish, St. Michels, in Boucan Carré, Haiti. With the help of donations, the committee assures the impoverished children are getting daily nourishment. They also are helping to bring clean water, medical supplies and care to the people who live there.

The committee:

  • enhances the health, welfare and standard of living for the people of St. Michels, so they may help themselves as much as possible
  • organizes a medical mission, typically in the spring and fall, to bring medical supplies donated by parishioners to St. Michels and to deliver medical care to our sister parish
  • hosts a yearly child adoption program in January that allows parishioners to commit $100/child/year to ensure that a specific St. Michels child of their choice gets a hot meal and vitamin a day, uniforms and supplies. The donations also support teacher salaries
  • meets monthly at 7 pm on Sundays in the Shea Room of the Parish Office Building. The specific dates are announced in the bulletin.

St. Michels:

  • has about 38,000 residents, including 480 children, scattered throughout a mountainous region
  • has one small church and 11 chapels in the mountains

Past projects have included:

  • the shipping of sea containers filled with medical and computer equipment, musical instruments, sewing, medical and school supplies, clothing, personal hygiene and non-perishable food items, vitamins, rosaries, Bibles, toys, a generator, a TV and VCR, shoes and tools
  • the establishment of a medical clinic and the hiring of a full-time Haitian nurse to manage it
  • the construction of a water system to bring clean water to the area
  • funding for a grain-milling machine

Medical missions are being planned on a regular basis. Check the bulletin for more information about the trips and the supplies that are needed. The missions are always looking for new volunteers to make this incredible, life-changing trip. If you are interested, please contact the committee. You do not have to have a medical background to go.
