Cub Scouts

Cub Scout Pack 22 is open to all young boys in Sacred Heart Cathedral parish. The pack is divided into five different dens:

  • Tiger Cubs – 1st graders
  • Wolves – 2nd graders
  • Bears – 3rd graders
  • 1st year Webelos – 4th graders
  • 2nd year Webelos – 5th graders

The entire Cub Scout Pack meets the first Wednesday of every month at 6:30pm in the Sacred Heart Cathedral School cafeteria. Individual dens usually meet once or twice a month to focus on specific projects and activities. There are several annual activities for Pack 22, including:

  • The Fall Round-Up is in September and allows boys to register with Pack 22 and join a den.
  • The Blue and Gold Banquet occurs in March as a means to recognize the efforts of all those involved with Pack 22.
  • The Pinewood Derby is usually held in April. Pack members design and build race cars and compete in the Derby with other packs from the local council.
  • Two annual outings are planned, one in spring and one in fall. Previous outings have been a hayride in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and an overnight adventure at Ripley’s Aquarium in the Smokies.

Cub Pack 22 is a member of the Toqua District of the Great Smoky Mountain Boy Scout Council. The Pack participates in various service projects in and around our community. In the past, such activities have included Christmas caroling at a local nursing home, testing the water quality of the creek on Cathedral property, placing flags on the markers at the Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, and clean-up projects at local parks.

Girl Scouts

The various Girl Scout troops at Sacred Heart can provide plenty of opportunity for activity and service. Presently ten different troops and approximately 120 young girls are active within the parish community. These troops encompass the following levels:

  • Daisies – Kindergarten
  • Brownies – grades 1-3
  • Juniors – grades 4-5

Troops for older girls will form as interest demands. Girls are welcome to join a troop at any age and any time of year. Each individual troop has its own meeting time, usually once or twice a month on a weekday afternoon. In general, every troop participates in meetings, camping skills and community service.

Girl Scouts at Sacred Heart also participate in several annual activities:

  • The annual Girl Scout cookie sale runs between January and March.
  • Scouts hold a Father/Daughter “Me and My Guy” dance every February.
  • Girl Scout Sunday takes place every year in early March and recognizes the efforts of those involved in the Girl Scout movement.
  • Many scouts participate in Girl Scout day camp and/or overnight camp.
  • The optional nut and calendar sale occurs every fall in November.

Sacred Heart Daisies, Brownies, and Girl Scouts also take part in various service projects, such as the parish clean-up days, Christmas caroling at a nearby nursing home and assisting with river clean-up at Ijams Nature Center. The Girl Scout troops at Sacred Heart are part of the Blue Grass Service Unit of the Tanasi Girl Scout Council.
