Family Promise of Knoxville provides temporary housing and assistance to families without homes in order to help them become self-sufficient. Poverty is a multi-faceted problem that requires a multi-faceted response. Family Promise responds by integrating educational outreach, smart programming, effective policies, and the hands-on work of thousands of volunteers.
Family Promise provides food, shelter, and support services for homeless families, and advice and advocacy for at-risk families to prevent them from becoming homeless. Family Promise also educates people about poverty and the means to combat it.
There are many ways you can help:
- prepare a meal
- stay to eat with the families
- spend some time visiting
- help with transportation
Usually, families in the program are facing homelessness for the first time in their lives due to job loss, medical conditions, financial problems, or other tough circumstances.
The cornerstone of Family Promise of Knoxville is our interfaith network of 12 “host” congregations and 21 “support” congregations. This congregational network is unique because it serves homeless families within the walls of places of worship, and focuses on providing a safe place for children and their families to sleep. Family Promise is lay-driven by volunteers.
Sacred Heart hosts families quarterly.
