Save The Date: The Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus will be hosting a retreat in March, featuring Dr. John Bergsma. Dr. Bergsma is a Full Professor of Theology at the Franciscan University of Steubenville. Dr. Bergsma will be talking about “The Passion Through Jewish Eyes: Understanding the Triduum in Light of the Dead Sea Scrolls.”
The depth and power of Jesus’ words and actions in his last days are often lost on contemporary Christians, who read the Gospels in light of modern culture. But the Dead Sea Scrolls, the only surviving Jewish writings from the lifetime of Jesus and the Apostles give us an amazing window on Jewish life and thought in the time of Jesus. Dr. Bergsma helps us journey through the three sacred days, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday bringing the Gospel accounts to life in light of the culture of the time. In the process, we discover how thoroughly Biblical and Jewish our Catholic faith really is.
The retreat will be held March 9th-10th, 7:00 pm in the Cathedral Hall. There will be a Spanish retreat in the Shea Room, hosted by Fr. Rafael Ramirez at the same date and time.
