Please help us welcome, Fr. Martin Gladysz. He joined our staff at the Cathedral Parish, on January 7th. He may also at times be helping other parishes in the diocese as a substitute priest.
Fr. Martin Gładysz was born on October 16, 1976, in Krakow. He grew up there and obtained his elementary and secondary education, as well as completed Gastronomic Technical School. His parents, Mark and Leokadia, still live in Krakow, as does his older sister, Edyta, with her family. In 1995, hearing the call to the priesthood, he began his philosophical and theological studies combined with his seminary formation. In 2002, he obtained a master’s degree at the Pontifical Academy of Theology (currently the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow). On May 18, 2002, he was ordained a priest at the Cathedral Basilica of the Holy Family in Częstochowa.
He began his priestly ministry as an Associate Pastor and Catechist in the parish of Saint John the Baptist in Nowa Brzeźnica (Archdiocese of Częstochowa). After three years of work, responding to God’s call, he asked his bishop to allow him to go on a mission to Papua New Guinea. After a year of preparation at the Missionary Formation Center in Warsaw and learning English in Washington, D.C., he left for Papua New Guinea.
In 2006, he began his missionary work in Papua New Guinea in the diocese of Mendi. He was a parish priest there: Kagua (11 churches), Sumi (18 churches) and Imbong (14 churches). In 2012, he moved from the Mendi mountain diocese to the coast of the Pacific Ocean, to the Madang Archdiocese. He served there as a parish priest in the Alexishafen parish (10 churches).
In 2014, Fr. Martin left Papua New Guinea and began his sabbatical leave. During that time, he visited the U.S. and decided to respond to the needs of the local Church in Chicago by taking up the Associate Pastor position at St. Priscilla Parish. From July to December 2018, Fr. Martin served as the Administrator of St. Priscilla Parish.
Please join me in welcoming Fr. Martin to the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
In Christ,
Fr. David
