
The Cathedral Academy of Music is an initiative aimed at enhancing the quality, consistency, and engagement of liturgical worship across the Diocese of Knoxville. It offers professional training for directors, conductors, cantors, accompanists, choir members, and administrators, alongside specialized liturgical and musical resources.
In partnership with Sacred Heart Cathedral School, the Academy also provides a comprehensive music and performing arts education for K–8 students. Students benefit from mentorships, masterclasses, and performance opportunities with industry professionals.

THEATRE SUMMER CAMP
Participants in this week-long theatre camp will embark on an exciting journey of creativity, self-expression, and performance. Campers will develop confidence, teamwork, and storytelling skills in a supportive and encouraging environment through engaging workshops in acting, improvisation, dance, and stage presence. Daily activities will inspire imagination, enhance physical and vocal expression, and foster a love for the performing arts. With a focus on fun and fellowship, the camp ensures a safe space for learning, exploration, and personal growth, culminating in a final showcase where participants can shine on stage!
The Cathedral Academy of Music, in coordination with Sacred Heart Cathedral School, makes this enriching experience possible. Introducing the Cathedral Academy of Music at Sacred Heart Cathedral School
Comprehensive Music and Performing Arts Curriculum for Grades LE/K–8 – Launching August 2025
Sacred Heart Cathedral School is excited to announce the launch of a dynamic performing arts program for grades LE/K–8, through the Cathedral Academy of Music. This innovative curriculum fosters creativity, cultivates talent, and builds artistic excellence, offering students a comprehensive education in music and the performing arts from beginner to advanced levels.
The Academy’s curriculum blends classical foundations with modern approaches, focusing on musicianship, performance, and expression. Students will explore:
- Music Theory & Aural Skills: A strong foundation in sight-reading, notation, harmony, composition, and active listening.
- Music History & Musicology: Students will delve into the rich history and cultural significance of music, exploring musical traditions, composers, and periods to deepen understanding and appreciation of the art form.
- Vocal & Choral Studies: From early singing groups to structured ensembles and liturgical choirs, students develop confidence and musicality.
- Instrumental Training: Instruction in a variety of instruments; including strings, winds, brass, and percussion, complemented by lessons, ensembles, and performances.
- Piano & Organ Studio: Focused piano and sacred organ instruction, including technique, improvisation, and performance practice.
- Music Technology & Production: Hands-on experience with analog and digital audio equipment, recording, electronic music creation, and sound design.
- Theatrical Arts: Drama, acting, stagecraft, dance, choreography, and full-scale productions to nurture expressive performance and storytelling.
Grades K-5 will have two music classes per week
Grades 6-8 may choose two specialized classes per week in Choir or Orchestra
Grades 6-8 additionally may choose an Elective in Theatre/Drama that meets twice per week.
Combined Ensemble Rehearsals will meet once per week before school at 7:00 am
