COMMUNION

The reception of the Eucharist is one of the three Sacraments of Initiation. It is the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ Himself, the food on our journey of faith. We are happy that you have chosen our Parish to guide you in your child’s sacramental journey.

Communion is available to Catholics in the state of grace at every Mass. Those sick and unable to attend Mass may receive Communion from our Priests, Deacons, and Communion’s extraordinary ministers.

Preparation for First Communion sacrament takes place in 2nd Grade during religion classes at Sacred Heart Cathedral School or during our Cathedral Kids Program on Wednesday evenings. Please Scott Barron for more information, at [email protected].

“I am the living bread that came down from heaven. . . Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you” (Jn 6:51, 53).
NOTE: It is the traditional practice of the Catholic Church that only baptized and practicing Catholics are invited to receive Holy Communion as a sign of our unity as Church. Those wishing to receive a blessing may come forward at communion time to receive a blessing from the priest. Simply cross your arms over your heart as a sign you would like to receive a blessing.
